A higher Bitcoin price can increase the dollar value of cloud mining payouts, making a contract appear successful. Direct BTC buyers benefit from the same price increase, however. The fair comparison is not mining versus cash left idle; it is the contract's final BTC output versus the Bitcoin that could have been purchased at the beginning. This article explains why buying BTC may outperform cloud mining even when both rise in dollar terms. Measuring the final coin balance prevents a market rally from hiding a contract that delivered relatively little Bitcoin after fees.
