For a long time, Korea's scientific community has avoided engaging with the creationists in fear that it could give the movement more credibility. Silence is no longer an alternative.

The STR has been fighting to get rid of textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a theory of science that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adjust to their environment, which could result in changes to genes or entire genomes. These changes can over many generations result in the development of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which explains the process by which those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. This variation in reproduction could eventually lead to the development and emergence of new species.

The word "evolution" is derived from the Latin for unrolling or revealing has been used in many different ways as the concept has evolved in both science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into another species. The term transmutation was coined by Lamarck's student, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833, attacked this idea and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that existing species evolve into other species in a gradual and predictable manner.

More recently evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living creatures develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival or ability to reproduce offspring. As time passes, this genetic variability can result in the development of completely new physical or biological traits in a population. Natural selection is the process that drives most evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, cannot be considered evolution because they aren't passed on to the next generation.

Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial, in spite of the fact that it has been proven to be true by thousands of scientific tests and it has stood the test of time. They argue that the theory shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have gained a few victories in their efforts to eliminate evolution from high-school textbooks which includes the removal of references to the evolutionary history of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur believed to be an ancestral bird's parent.

Why is Evolution Important?

Evolution is the explanation for the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the pillars of biology, and helps scientists discover how living things operate and grow. Evolution also demonstrates how different species are linked. Scientists study evolution to understand the natural world, and to make useful discoveries, such as developing new treatments.

The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so much about the universe and life on Earth and has been thoroughly tested and confirmed over a long period of time. Many people, including some religious leaders, support the scientific theory of evolution. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology doesn't interfere with religious beliefs since it only addresses physical objects, events, and processes.

In reality many religious individuals have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolution. Certain Christians, for example, believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans have an ancestry that is shared with other animals.

It is crucial that science educators stand up for the teaching of evolution. In some countries around the world the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States, efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made progress in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbooks to include content on the evolution of horses and their Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.

While these are disturbing changes, it's important to keep in mind that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics and the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.

The majority of scientists supports the theory of evolution. This support is based on many different reasons. Scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries such as developing new drugs, while others do so to improve animal and plants species, mostly to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others have an intense faith in God.

What is Creationism?

Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. While some creationists are not Christian but many are. Creationists generally fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).


YECs are the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of six days of creation is literal and that the universe and the life on Earth were only created recently.

OECs are less well known, but they're just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is a myth.

Both forms of creationism deny that scientific principles such as natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life started on Earth. They argue that evolution is not possible because it would require miracles. The pioneers of modern science shunned miracles because they feared they would lose their credibility.

Some creationists accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their belief "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of the created species." In this theory, God creates the original species, and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species similar to the original.

Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, known as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the first species were all created simultaneously, and that they evolved slowly afterward. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis and claim that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.

In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional associations, like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be included in their curriculum.

What is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their books. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. STR has achieved its first victory in taking away instances of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx, from textbooks. Its next target is to eliminate excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research and also on human evolution.

STR claims that it has the support of around 4000 families and individuals. Its mission, it states is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" that paints an image of students as being negative. 에볼루션 슬롯게임 seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of undergraduates studying biology found that half did not believe in evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely clear, but could include religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the country.

The KACR achieved many things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences that has an orthodox creationist perspective, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.

On August 6 and 7 the 7th of August 1993, which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering lectures on creation science at major seminaries as well. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
