The sweeping performance is also impressive on carpets and bare flooring. The vacuum/mop has an excellent level of debris collection and the mop will quickly soak up bare floors.

The mops utilize a clever system that cleans the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot can easily avoid obstacles such as food bowls, toys, and backpacks. But best robot floor cleaner can get stuck or become entangled with smaller and flatter objects, such as shoelaces USB cables, and pen.

We used this robot to clean and mop a mixture of pile carpet tiles, FLOR carpet and hardwood floors within a large, open house floor plan. It was able to vacuum and mop the area of 90m2 in 170 minutes with FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than the average for Gen 4 robots.

The RX3's robust four-stage system offers excellent dust collection on hard floors and carpets. Side brushes that can be swung out with dual suction channels, and easy-to-use controls keep corners clean. Its 8.5 cm height lets it reach under furniture with low levels. Front cameras and infrared sensor assist in navigating barriers, thresholds and obstructions with ease.

In our test of how it cleaned baking soda near baseboards and in corners, the Scout RX3 was impressive. Its suction of 2,500 Pa was less powerful than other robots, but it was able to move quickly and was very quiet. It didn't mop, and its removable cleaning pad was a challenge to attach. It also wasn't able to handle dirt that was dried on.

The app doesn't have advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does work with Alexa however, its voice controls aren't particularly clear or responsive. It's also a little erratic when it returns to the charging station following a run. Other robots can follow the wall or trace the previous route, but the RX3 bumbles around until it gives up.

Another issue we faced was with its intelligent features, particularly the mapping function and digital keep-out zones. While it did a great job of keeping away from our shoes and furniture legs however, it was easily hung up by socks and cables, and couldn't handle the tassels on rug. That's why we chose not to include it on our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and a dazzling performance. It's worth a look as an alternative to the traditional uprights.
